"And you couldn't just...duplicate Candy's map," Mozenrath said with disbelief. "Get him to show it to you, then magically transfer the markings onto another parchment that YOU keep? This sounds ridiculously easy." Duplicate... the map... Mozenrath must never know the king had not thought of such an idea. Was it because he was not used to wasting magical energy on such trivial matters, or was the lich simply from a bygone era? "...fine, boy. We'll do it your way." The king plunged his hand into the collection of scrolls, not caring what might have been on them, and took the first his hand could get a grasp on. He trudged passed Mozenrath, taking care not to look at the sorcerer's bewildered expression, and found Candy once more, still peering at the map. Without much remorse or care, the Horned King swiped the parchment from Candy, the spare tucked in-between his arm and body, and spread out his hand on the map. His gnarled claws glowed a faint light, the lines and runes of the map reacting in kind. The king hated that the technique working quite quickly and... easily, just as Mozenrath said. Within seconds, the whole map had been traced, and the king tossed the original scroll back to Candy. The king unfurled his own parchment and turned it over (some sort of binding contract was written in ink with a signature, but the Horned King didn't notice or care), and once again splayed his hand out, magical energy surging from his fingertips. The tracings of the map began to etch themselves into the paper, and, again, it took less time than the king would like to admit. With a few incoherent grumblings, the lich finished the copy. He would have been proud to open it completely and take a look at the residence, but at this point he was ready to simply pass it off to another. And it this case, there was only one candidate. Returning to where Mozenrath stood, the king passed the makeshift map to the younger sorcerer with but one curt word: "Here."

He could tell he'd caught the Horned King in a bout of frustrated sheepishness. He was tempted to call it out...but not too long ago had he been walking through the Thorn Gardens because he hadn't thought of simply teleporting away. Not that he was sympathetic. He just knew that if you used ammunition, you had to be ready for it to come back your way, and the next time he made such an error, he could do without the Horned King pointing out his stupidity. So he simply unrolled the map, not making a remark toward the situation whatsoever. He then used his index finger to trace through the labyrinth of rooms. "It looks like there's a cluster of small rooms here that don't seem to have a purpose." He tapped the location. "Probably another storage facility, or maybe servants' quarters. Whatever the case, they're unlabeled. We should investigate to see if we can lend them a label." [OOC: EDIT: On our way, can we swing by the Storage to see McLeach and Negaduck? They've requested to interact with Moz if the time permits, and Negaduck does tie into Mozenrath's vengeance quest.]

The hunters and animal companions will be in for quite the scare!]

He said nothing to the remainder of the inhabitants making conversation within, though he did take a glance towards Varian and Davy Jones, the latter of which he had not realized had appeared in the librarium. How quaint - his Cauldron fighting force had all gathered in one singular location. If only less pressing matters were at hand, the Horned King would have felt some duty to speak with his associates who agreed to serve under him, if but only momentarily, and lay out his plans to retrieve the crucible. However, this was not the time or place - especially not within earshot of Facilier and his "scholarly" rogue. Something about the glares the voodoo doctor had made made the lich feel there was some plot brewing against him. He would not let such come to fruition if he had anything to say about it. Focus... The Horned King berated himself. Follow the little sorcerer and see where the map leads. The cauldron's home is somewhere in this castle. Certainly there would be no more frustratingly imbecilic diversions now... right? [OOC: It seems like the Storage room is set up for another big entrance. I'm gonna let the others there build it up a bit before either of us steps in.]

An alchemist? Well, that at least answered some of Davy's questions. So the boy did have some useful skills to warrant his inclusion in this alliance. Jones had known a few alchemists in the past, one of which was one of the most powerful and ruthless pirate lords he had ever known. However, whether or not this Varian was capable of reaching such heights of power remained to be seen, but the captain couldn't deny that was interested in finding out. "I am Davy Jones, captain of The Flying Dutchman, and lord of the sea." Jones set aside his book (a volume of fabled magical artifacts that had so far failed to interest the captain) and eyed the boy. "You seem rather young to be among such company. Tell me, what ambitions brought you to join this dark crew?" "Hmph, the funny thing was my ambitions were good at first. All I did was try to warn people about a new threat to the kingdom, but the king lied and covered up that threat until it was too late. At first I thought the princess and her friends would help me, but I was wrong. When I needed them most, they ignored me and threw me out as I begged the princess to save my father! After that, I swore I would make the kingdom of Corona pay for what they did to me and my father. I launched an attack with a mechanical army and captured the Princess, until she used her magic to stop my machines. But now that I'm part of this 'dark crew', when I return to Corona, I will make Princess Rapunzel and everyone in Corona pay for what they did." After Varian spoke about his story, he started wondering about Davy Jones' story. Where did he come from? And was he ever human? There were many questions Varian had about such an unusual entity. Though Varian was a bit hesitant to ask and thought it would be best to let him reveal his past if he wanted too. Chances were pirates like him wouldn't like sharing much about themselves. He doubted monster pirates would be even less willing. (OOC: Sorry for how late my response is - I've been kind of busy the past couple days. Hopefully I'll be able to post more regularly now.) "I see..." An initially good man, turned cruel by by the betrayal of a woman he had trusted and the loss of one he loved? It was a story Davy Jones was all too familiar with. (Varian had not stated exactly what had become of his father, but Jones had little difficulty filling in the blanks) Although the exact circumstances of their pasts were very different, Jones could unmistakably recognize in Varian an anger very similar to his own. Perhaps he and the young alchemist were more alike than he had originally thought. "It would seem that we are in pursuit of a similar goal, Master Varian," Jones said, producing his pipe from his pocket. "Like you, I was betrayed by worthless, lying charlatans who cost me everything I once held dear." The captain's expression hardened. "And now I will not rest until every last one of them has been repaid as blackguards such as them deserve."

Varian wasn't expecting the one he could relate the most to be the one who was least human. "Well then, if what Maleficent said is true and we all work together, I think we can get our revenge." Varian did feel a deep connection with Davy Jones, so much so that he was tempted to see if Davy Jones might be interested in helping with the automatons.

He had merely been speculating about Varian's use of another army of machines, or 'Automatons' as he called them, but his mention of it seemed to be what had tipped Varian off to his conversation with the lich, implying that the Horned King was privy to his machines and whatever he had planned for them, and could have potentially relayed that information to Jones. The king had mentioned that he had recruited one other to his cause. Perhaps Varian had been the one he was referring to. "As a matter of fact, I have," Jones answered, raising his pipe to his mouth with one of the tentacles in his beard, "although he didn't mention anything about your..'automatons'. You yourself mentioned having used them in your last attempt at revenge, so I assumed you might plan on using them again." Blowing a puff of smoke, Davy continued, hoping to see if his conclusion that Varian had allied with the Horned King was accurate. "The king spoke with me to propose that I lend my aid in finding something he called 'the Black Cauldron', in exchange for his help in achieving my other goals. Perhaps he spoke with you about something similar?"

(OOC: Once again, apologies for the delay - a lot of life stuff has kept me busy for the past few days.) Davy smiled. How fortuitous that just after allying himself with the Horned King, he should happen to run into and begin a conversation with his one other associate. Although, now that Jones thought about it, he had noticed the king display a certain fervor when he had spoken of the cauldron back in the Auditorium. As glad as Jones was to have an ally as fearsome and driven as the king, his obsession with the cauldron was definitely something to take note of. Someone that fixated on a goal would likely have no problem tossing his allies aside if it suited him to do so. In a group such as this, Jones would have to be prepared for betrayal if and when it came. "Well, it seems our goals continue to align, Master Varian." Davy paused to take another puff from his pipe, before continuing. "It remains to be seen if the cauldron is truly as powerful as the Horned King claims it to be, but as long as he ensures that my ship and crew are returned to me as promised, I am more than willing to lend him my aid in this endeavour. Besides, I highly doubt that any of our enemies will be able to stand against the combined power of us three, to say nothing of whomever else our horned benefactor can enlist to aid us." Lowering his pipe, Jones looked at Varian. "Tell me, what do you make of the others in this castle? Do any of them seem as though they would be particularly valuable as an ally?"

Varian began pacing around a bit as he talked about the other denizens of the castle. "Well, everyone in this castle is interesting, to say the least. Mozenrath's shown to be an expert in magic, and we might be working together on some interesting projects combining science and magic soon. Though he does have a short temper. He went berserk when he realized someone stole some crystal he had. He shook and threatened me thinking I had them, and in his reckless rage, made some of my chemical unstable and cause that explosion you heard earlier. There's also Ratigan, who despite his size does have a keen intellect. He even brought me some research material for a new project I might look into. He's got a short temper too, but only seems to get upset if you call him a rat. There's also a man named Sykes who also seems skilled in crime and intimidation, though I haven't seen him since we all got here. And of course, you're familiar with the Horned King. He certainly seems very smart and powerful, but I have to confess I'm a bit worried about his obsession with the cauldron. Those have been the most reliable of the people I've met so far. Negaduck is greedy and impulsive, he's even trying to claim everything in the storage room as his. Still, he does seem to be heavily armed and can be good in a fight. And King Candy, he has a powerful form, but he's so far acted like an insane idiot. That's everyone I know so far. Though I have been cooped up in my lab all day, and it seems there have been new arrivals such as your self and that guy with the scar showed up while I was working on my automatons. So I may have to meet these new arrivals soon." Varian said as he finished his detail analysis of the good and bad of each of his allies.

While King Candy was studying the map, he suddenly heard someone utter his name. He came out of the corner he was in, and suddenly saw Varian talking to a man with tentacles around his mouth, dressed in pirate clothes and holding a pipe.
He first turned to Varian, and said:
"Hi there, haven't seen you in a while. You're Varian, right?"
Then he turned to the pirate, and said:
"As for you, I don't think I've seen you around before. My name is King Candy."
