There was little time during the mayhem that ensued that allowed the Horned King to intervene. Negaduck enacted his selfish, most insane plot and bolted, taking Mozenrath's crystal and darting away from the storage unit. The cavalcade of enraged villains pursued, their attention towards slowing Ruddiger all but turned on the mallard. The others were either experienced trackers or young and spry, and gave chase far easier.
However, not the old bones of the lich. If the group were to slow down at some point at a familiar spot on the castle grounds, the king could no doubt sense their combined energies, or at the very least Mozenrath's, and teleport to them. But while on the run? Foolish - he'd rather not be trampled upon. And he was certainly not running after them. Out of the question.
"Nothing but delay after delay... Will this madness ever cease?" The Horned King spat, red eyes glaring down the hallway. With Mozenrath holding onto the map but now certainly out for Negaduck's blood, their tour would seem to be on an indefinite hiatus. And it will surely be prolonged the moment Varian is alerted to what has happened to his once small and scared familiar. Where in blazes were the Five to pacify this army of fools and miscreants?
Then his eyes fell on the unconscious form of Joanna, knocked out by Negaduck's contraption. Though the duck's transgressions were far more egregious, no one made a fool out of the king - especially not some dull creature such as this.
If the king's time must be wasted, then so too should someone else have to suffer.
The lich stalked his way over to McLeach's pet, an anger boiling in side of him, not even realizing the master of the goanna was still nearby. Surely he could find a fitting punishment that would be far worse than he could inflict upon...
A pause...
...what was the name of Mozenrath's disgusting pet eel? Darius? And where had it gone? One moment it was firmly in his grasp, the next...?
[OOC: Edited this response, was unaware that McLeach was still within the storage area. Apologies for the inconvenience.]

Xerxes was hiding behind a stack of crates, rather hoping the Horned King wouldn't find him.
The lich was frightening, plain and simple.
And it seemed it would be only a matter of time before Xerxes was found.

Well…this whole nightmare, just continued to spiral into awfulness. While his bite had managed to get a reaction out of the Raccoon, allowing Percival to get a hit in, it had barley done anything to really effect Ruddiger. And as if that wasn't bad enough, that FOOL Negaduck had decided to steal the crystal again and directly taunt the very beast, that was currently chasing him. This in tern had gotten Mozenrath to start to turn on the duck and caused Ruddiger, to resume chasing him at top speeds. Ratigan, did not know what the duck was planning, if he had a plan at all, but as he tried to hold onto the rampaging monster, running at top speeds, he was suddenly feeling a lot less guilty about betraying him.

Apologies for the inconvenience.] McLeach kept kneeling for the moment, his anger honestly keeping him still as he thought of every single way he could torture Negaduck. Boil him. Drown him. Maybe bash him on the head. Anything to shut up the duck. He finally stood up, unloading the one tranquilizer still in his gun and putting two fresh regular shotgun shells into it. As he put the tranquilizer away, he noticed a boney hand reaching for Joanna’s body. ”Unless you intend to heal her,” he warned, closing his gun with a loud click, “I suggest that you back away from my girl.” He turned his head over to the Horned King with pure murderous intent in his eyes. Not necessarily murder eyes meant for the King, but McLeach was close enough to not caring who got shot at this point.

The Horned King narrowed his eyes. This mortal... this... McLeach was the kind that the lich could stand the least. Loud. Disrespectful. Having compassion in the wrong places.
Fearless.
It was that last one that made the king the most perturbed. Only fools would dare stand up before the king. Yet McLeach clearly cared not for rank, position, notoriety - in his eyes the king and he were on the same level.
That was worse than having his insipid lizard step on his feet. And it would have to change. Immediately.
"Save your anger for the meddling fowl, and put that blasted contraption down," the king spat, batting the gun's barrel towards somewhere that wasn't king. He scowled down at the unconscious Joanna. What he was about to do wasn't in his nature at all. But the hunter needed to be shown where he lay on the totem pole in this gathering of rogues.
"Remember this moment well."
With a horrid sneer, the lich extended his hand over Joanna, which began to glow a faint light. It passed over the entirety of McLeach's pet, a warmness enveloping the creature. Healing magics weren't particularly his forte (after all, who was even worthy of the consideration of being healed by his hand?), but any good sorcerer worth his salt would know the bare bone minimum of what the arts can allow.
After a few moments, the light died down, and the lich took his hand away from Joanna. He did not look back at McLeach. "The creature... she will live."

Xerxes trembled behind the crates. Though Joanna had betrayed him...he couldn't help but feel something for her. A legitimate friendship, even if she didn't want to be friends with him.
If this was a trick and the lich had hurt her...Xerxes would make him pay.
(By maybe biting off a finger or something.)

Post by Varian on Dec 15, 2019 4:04:47 GMT
Varian made his way to the storage, just in time to see Negaduck run by, though it seemed Negaduck didn't see him. "Ugh. Figures he'd have something to do with this. What did he-"
It was then that Mozenrath ran after him too, screaming something about a crystal. Both seemingly too focused on running to notice him. "Oh, so this is all about that crystal. Maybe I'd better not get invol-"
That was when Ruddiger ran past in his gigantic monster form. Like the others, Ruddiger seemed too busy to notice Varian. Varian merely stood there in shock and confusion for a few moments trying to figure this all out. Ruddiger couldn't have gotten this big without his growth formula. He only had a small amount of the formula and even that wasn't enough to make Ruddiger that big.
And to add more questions, a man Varian didn't know wearing a yellow outfit carrying some sort of metal rods ran by shortly after Ruddiger.
"Huh? Wha? But how? Why? I don't-WHAT IS GOING ON!?!" Varian shouted. It was then he noticed just outside the storage was the Horned King and a strange looking man. Varian rushed towards the Horned King hoping to get some answers.
"Can anyone explain to me what the heck is going on here? How did Ruddiger get so big without my growth formula? Why are Ruddiger and Mozenrath after Negaduck? Also, who are the new guys? And why are you holding that big lizard?" Varian spoke fast as his voice was filled with confusion and concern about what happened to Ruddiger.

Post by Percival C. McLeach // Joanna on Dec 15, 2019 5:21:50 GMT
McLeach's eyes, for a moment, changed from anger to welcoming shock as the Horned King actually healed Joanna. Like, he actually did it.
"Well, I'll be," he muttered gently, loud enough for the Lich to hear, as he watched Joanna start to breath more normally. "I didn't actually expect that."
He lowered his gun for a moment as he looked back at the King with gratitude. "I appreciate that. I mean, she's in for a world of trouble when she can get back on her feet, but I appreciate your help. Although, I guess I should ask if this means I owe you somethin' like a favor which, to be frank, I ain't got much on me outside of a map of the castle you could copy."
"WHAT IS GOING ON!?!"
McLeach's attention suddenly shifted to someone new. He turned to see the rather scrappy teenager run up towards him and the Lich with lots of sciency stuff on him. He was a little taken back by the barrage of questions, but he was both relieved to have some of his own questions answered as well as get back to focusing on some pressing matters.
"So you're the raccoon's owner," he realized. "And, to be frank, kid, we don't know exactly what happened to make Ruddi...the raccoon turn into a werewolf. All that we know is that Mozenrath's crystal could have helped us solve the issue earlier but Negaduck stole it. He's currently acting on his own selfish instincts and already turned on all of us. That's why your raccoon, Mozenrath, and Clayton are after him."
"Meanwhile, my name's Percival C. McLeach," he continued, putting one hand on his hip while using the other to rest his gun on his shoulder. "The goanna here is mine and...(he realized he didn't properly know the Horned King's name, so he just decided to go with pronouns mid-sentence)...he healed her from a wound Negaduck just gave her."

"Spare me your thanks," the Horned King hissed. "Despite the insipid infighting that has transpired, it would do us no good to be forever at each other's throats. If you were called here by Maleficent then you must be worth something."
He met the hunter's gaze. "But you certainly are perceptive. I healed your pet - you are now in my debt. I know not what I will have you do, but when the time comes, you will respond to my summons."
It certainly would be simple to just bring McLeach on the mission to claim the Black Cauldron, end the dept right there. However, there was certainly enough able bodies on that trip already. Certainly, in the future, the king could make use of the hunter's skills for something more... malicious.
Those thoughts would have to be for another time, as an exasperated and befuddled Varian came blustering onto the scene, bombarding the king and the hunter with questions. It was not surprising - he had missed much. McLeach explained most of the situation to the alchemist, then the king chimed in.
"Mozenrath's gem, the Crystal of Ix, is a rather useful item of power. I would imagine that its properties are vast, if Mozenrath's desire to reclaim it is anything to go by," the king mused to Varian and McLeach. "I would not doubt that it is what caused your dear pet to grow in strength and size."
Though not particularly appreciative of McLeach explaining to Varian how the lich healed Joanna (the king refused to be mistaken for the compassionate type), there were more serious matters to attend to and discuss.
"Negaduck has become far too unruly. His selfish desires jeopardize the stability of our faction. We must resolve this before the Five take notice and lose faith in all of us."
He paced. "However, the problem becomes locating Negaduck and the others. They surely have not left the castle grounds yet, but that still leaves too wide of a breadth for us to track..."
If only they had something of one of the chasers to use, preferably Mozenrath's. His magical signature would be simple to lock onto, and the king could transport the three of them to wherever he may be.
...
Ah.
The lich turned back to the storage room. There was something... someone they could use, couldn't they?

Xerxes gulped. "Oh no."
He attempted to slink behind the crates and use them as cover to return to the vents.

The Horned King stalked back into the storage room, scanning the room. It mattered little if Varian or McLeach understood his plan - they'd realize soon enough what he meant should he find his quarry. There was a chance the eel had disappeared after the lich lost his grasp on him, which would certainly make locating the others more toilsome. However, the king remembered the fearful cries Xerxes had made towards Joanna when he was still in the lich's grasp. The Horned King was betting on those same weak emotions.
He spread his arms out, and called out into the storage room. "Come out, come out, little eel. I had no intentions of meaning you... too much harm, I assure you. What with all the commotion that happened, your master has just been so... busy, and I wanted to look after you for when things calmed down."
A half lie, of course. But what came next was the important part in persuading the eel to come out.
"I even healed your friend after she was struck by that nasty old duck. The very same duck that your master is after right this very moment. Now, we can reunite you with him AND get vengeance for dear Joanna against the duck that's caused such harm to everyone here, but I need you to come out to us. Otherwise, who knows what may befall Mozenrath, Ruddiger and the others."
And with that, the bait has been set.
Now come out, you miserable little wretch.

Wait a minute.
"Mozenrath...in trouble? New friend...in trouble too? Hurt Joanna?"
Xerxes shot up from behind the crates, revealing his position, forgetting the perceived danger. "DUCK WHERE?" he cried in a panic tinted ever so slightly with anger.

That was terribly easy, though the Horned King preferred that than having to search any more of the castle grounds. Weak minds are always so easy to jump to conclusions when they think with their hearts instead of their brains. Though, the lich wasn't exactly sure how much of either the eel had, but that wasn't important. What was important was the creature's magical signature.
Without missing a beat, the Horned King stalked up to Xerxes, and without so much as a smirk or a warning, snatched the eel out of the air. "Your assistance is appreciated, little one."
The king could feel Mozenrath's specific brand of magic simply from holding onto his pet as he returned to the outside of the storage room, where Varian and McLeach were waiting. Using Xerxes as a tuner and his memory of the castle's layout, the king felt the flow of magic lead all the way to the thorn gardens. How comical - the one place Mozenrath would least like to return to.
"Mozenrath lies within the thorn gardens - that must be where Negaduck must have led him and the others to," the king stated, looking from the alchemist to the hunter. "I can transport us there, if you are prepared."

"HEY! Don't hurt him!" Varian screamed as he saw the Horned King grip Xerxes. Varian didn't care much for the eel, but he couldn't help but think what if that was Ruddiger in his place. Though Varian calmed down slightly as the Horned King explained he knew where Mozenrath was and that they could teleport there. Where Mozenrath was menat Negaduck and Ruddiger couldn't be far behind. He had to hurry there before Ruddiger hurt them. Or worse, before they hurt Ruddiger. Thankful Varian had stopped by his lab to pick up his new prototype staff. Made from some spare piece of the automaton Varian was working on, Varian crafted a new extendable metal staff with orbs containing his chemical. Varian raised his new staff with a look of determination to save Ruddiger. "I'm ready as I'll ever be."
