Hello and welcome to The Dark Kingdom, the shadowy place where villains mix and mingle! Before you get started letting loose your villainous side, please take a moment to read over our forum rules.
Character Selection
1. This is a Disney Villains roleplay site, and, as such, to be a part of this community, you must roleplay a DISNEY villain. This is not a page for OCs or for crossover characters. As for what constitutes a Disney villain for the sake of this forum, they must adhere to one of the following requirements:
That means, at this time, we are NOT accepting Pixar villains, Marvel villains, Star Wars villains, villains from TV shows like Gargoyles or Gravity Falls, Kingdom Hearts original villains, or villains from properties that Disney owns the rights to but didn't make themselves. We love all of those characters too, but it's important to have limitations on the characters to ensure that the main focus remains on the Disney villains.
2. Kind of obvious, but your character must be a VILLAIN. That means they aren't just a hero turned dark or have not undergone a redemption arc. If you wish to play a villain who redeemed themselves (i.e. John Silver), you must play them either pre-redemption or as if they've gone back to being a villain. They also must have human intelligence and personality. Monsters and animals who have no concept of morality do not qualify.
3. No duplicate characters. You MUST choose a character that has not yet been chosen by another user unless that user has not been active in over a month.
4. Along those same lines, you are not choosing a villain by a specific universe, and so there are no alternate version of the same character. For example, I am playing as Maleficent, so that means that no one else is playing as the Kingdom Hearts version or the Angelina Jolie versions. You can pull from whatever Disney alternate universes that you'd like (i.e. Kingdom Hearts, Reboots/Remakes, Descendants, Once Upon a Time, etc.) up to and including using solely their pictures, personality, and abilities. However, they still must have the original version's history and relationships (i.e. if you choose Captain Hook and play him based mostly on his Once Upon a Time iteration, Peter Pan was still the one who cut off his hand, not Rumplestiltskin, because that's how it was in the original film). You can blend in as much of the AU's history as you'd like as long as it doesn't contradict the original.
5. Your display name should be your villain's name, and your avatar should be a picture of that villain. You may also use the signature section to add additional pictures, but they should not be overly large.
6. Please write a bio page for your character in the Library section, including powers and abilities, backstories, and general details.
7. Start off with only ONE character. Admin runs two (Maleficent and Hades), and you'll have the opportunity to take on secondary characters as well down the line. However, before we get to that point, I want to see how most of you handle a single character and maintain activity as them. Multiple characters can be hard to juggle if you're not used it, so warm yourself into a single one.
General Behavior Rules and Roleplaying Guidelines
1. This board is considered PG-13, meaning you must be 13 years of age or older to join. Likewise, the content of this board should reflect that rating, meaning there should be no smut or excessive gore and profanity should be kept to a minimum (you're playing as Disney characters, after all). Alcohol, drugs, and sexual innuendo/references are all okay, as long as they're not overpowering.
2. No "God-Modding." God-Modding constitutes controlling another person's character without their consent. You can't write someone else's character doing something in your post. For example:
Not acceptable: "Chernabog spread his wings out and roared, causing Jafar to tremble in fear."
Acceptable: "Chernabog spread his wings and roared, creating a fearsome sight that would make lesser men tremble."
Whether someone wants their character to react a certain way is entirely THEIR decision, not yours.
"God-Modding" also can constitute the following:
-Giving your character god-like and unbeatable powers that are not supported by canon
-"Auto hitting" attacks without giving your opponent an opportunity to dodge
-Infinite dodging beyond what is reasonable for the character (i.e. giving someone like Cruella De Vil matrix style bullet dodging capabilities)
If God-Modding is observed, it'll just be called out, and the post will be considered invalid and null.
3. Don't pester people about replies. Be considerate about their schedules. If they're not online at a time when something is happening, then their character need not be involved. If it directly involves their character, then please be patient and wait for them.
4. The way you format replies and posts is up to you. I imagine most people are going to go with novel style, but if you prefer asterisks to signify actions or any other format, that's fine too. As long as it's clear and consistent what is dialogue and what is an action.
5. We're all playing with villains, that means playing with big egos and mean remarks. Please don't take things said in character personally. While all villains here are meant to be friends on the same side, they may occasionally throw insults and the like. Please just have thick skin, and, if you need to take a step back, then do so. However, along those same lines, don't have your villain pick on and bully the same person constantly, because that's really not fun for people.
6. We understand that English isn't always everyone's first language, and expecting perfect grammar is unrealistic. However, please make best efforts to read and clean up your posts so that they are legible and understandable. A few grammar mistakes and typos are fine. Posts that require others to struggle to decipher are not.
7. You should make best efforts to write for your character in-character. We're not an audition based RP group. You can just join and get started after claiming your character. However, we do expect you to play your character as close to how they are written in canon as possible. If you consistently are writing your character OOC, we may need to talk about changing your character to someone you understand better.
8. Shipping is A-Okay as long as both users consent to it and are okay with it. You may ship hetero, slash, or femslash. Smut, however, is not allowed in public threads.
Guide to the Boards
Please use the different board sections for their intended purposes. You may start new threads and topics (as many as you'd like) in all except the Proclamation board.
The Villain Castle - This is a place for villains to hang out and interact in character in a casual setting. The setting is the villain castle seen in the banner pic, ruled over by Maleficent and her inner circle. No battling or fights occur here (the castle's magic keeps everyone at bay and heroes away)
The Library - This board is where you put your character's bio. You may choose to write your bio in character or out of character. Please look at the Maleficent bio in the thread for an example of how yours should look.
Venture Forth - This board is for adventures and missions outside of the castle. Battles can take place here, and users can play as heroes to be fought and defeated over here.
The Mortal World - For any out of character conversations. While this board is for talking about real life and the real world, conversations should still adhere to general forum policies. There is no political discussion to be had here, and no cyberbullying other members. In addition, fandom related topics in this board should all revolve around the topic of Disney villains in some manner. This isn't a social media forum. This is a topic based forum.
